Board Meeting August 11, 2008

The meeting was called to order by Dick Roberts N0UC, President, at 7:00 PM.

 

Secretary Report (John W3FAF)  Written copies were passed out for:

Minutes from June 2008 Board Meeting…Denny’s name was incorrectly spelled as Danny (corrected).

Minutes from July 14 2008 Board Meeting…Dick’s call was mistyped as N0C (corrected).  With the above corrections, they were approved unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report (Denny KB0OQQ)

Closing balance as of July 30, 2008 is:

Balance          $2645.62                   $59.21

VE Fund brought in 28.00 and had ARRL expenses of $16.00.  The General Fund had its $150.00 returned from the Field Day Park Deposit and there were a few small expenses.

 

Apparel (Skip KS0J)

Skip contacted and ordered cloth patches (sew on/hot melt glue).  The art work was incorrect and the background color was corrected to Columbia Blue (saturated).  He paid the invoice of $176.00 for 50-3.5 by 2.5 inch patches.  The logo background color will be so modified on all forthcoming items. 

 

Programs (Skip KS0J)

John W3FAF suggested N0UR on QRP Contesting. 

Denny KB0OQQ suggested a K0QB presentation on the Dakota Division and ARRL HQ Info.

 

Other Items:

JOTA:  Are we going to do anything?  Dick will check into it.  It will be held the 3rd Saturday in October.  This will be brought up at the General Meeting.

“Woodbury Country Mile  will be held August 24.  Volunteers are needed.

Election Committee:  This action item will be brought up at the General Meeting.

ARES Meeting:  Steve put out an agenda via e-mail for the September 18th Meeting.

Jim KC0QCO has a new telephone number as of Thursday … Take Note.

 

Membership Dues (restructure)

For new members after the month of XX, they get the next year.  It was decided that XX should be October 1st.  A Full Time student pays $10.00/year [full time means they are taking a full credit load]. 

 

Club Youth Policy

Any person under the age of 18 must have an adult sponsor present at club activities.  ARRL has set up a committee to study youth interactions.

 

Scholarship Committee  (Jim KC0QCO)

They will be meeting shortly to discuss the Scholarship brochures for this fall.

General Meeting August 26, 2008

The meeting was called to order by Dick Roberts N0UC, President, at 7:13 PM.

 

Secretary Report (John W3FAF)  Written copies of the past meeting minutes were passed.

They were MSA.

 

Treasurer’s Report (Denny KB0OQQ)

Balance from July, 2008:    $2586.46 ($2516.02 in the General Fund and $77.00 in the VE Fund)

Closing Balance August, 2008:  $2704.83

The report was accepted.

 

Scholarship Dick N0UC:

Hubbard Broadcasting Co., KSTP, donated a check in the amount of $1000.00 for the scholarship committee.  Thanks to Jim Boyd’s good work.  Denny KB0OQQ moved that we start a separate account for the Scholarship Fund.  MSA and a new account will be started.

 

Patches (Skip KS0J):  The patches haven’t been received yet but the $176.00 bill was paid for 50 patches.

 

 

ARES (Steve AB0XE):

The next Washington County ARES meeting will be held Thursday ,Sept 18th, at 7PM in Classroom 1 at Boutwells Landing Lower Level.

 

JOTA (Dan WD0GUP):

JOTA is scheduled for October 18.  The Boy Scouts have been active in the past at JOTA.  The location of the JOTA stations and activity is being negotiated.  Hopefully it will be at the Cottage Grove Armory.  Activities will include but not limited to:  Radio Merit Badge, Satellite communications, QSL cards, getting on the air, etc.  A web site will be available at JOTA-CG dot org.

Tonight’s Program is a video from ARRL entitled “ARRL Headquarters Tour of W1AW.”  (from c.2004) by public demand!

Darian’s Dash (Dick N0UC)

This event is no longer being held.  Instead, it is replaced by a Golf Tournament.

 

Nominations Committee (Dick N0UC)

The following volunteered to serve on the nominations committee:  Skip KS0J (Chair), Dan WD0GUP and John W3FAF.

 

Storage Cabinet (Denny KB0OQQ)

We need a storage cabinet to lock up our valuables at the fire station.  If you have one to donate, let him or any of the board know.

 

Other (Dick N0UC)

147.18 Repeater: This repeater is temporarily down for relocation on the CG 70th St Water Tower (Meadow Lake).  It will be re-coordinated at the new location.

Financial Grants:  Most grants go through the state but with our affiliation with the MN Dept of Health, it is likely that grants would come through this route.  This will be finalized by September 15.  We might run Tests of the hospital system on the 147.18 repeater when it is up again.

Skip KS0J brought a selection of power pole connectors with assembly instructions as well as some CDs containing the Audacity Program (an audio recorder).  We then viewed the CD of the ARRL HQ.
